The Museum of Modern Art in New York (MoMA) Acquires Seven Iconic Works by Colombian Artist Antonio Caro
Casas Riegner is pleased to announce that seven iconic works by Colombian conceptual artist Antonio Caro have been acquired by The Museum of Modern Art in New York (MoMA).
The acquired artworks are: Colombia Marlboro 1974, Colombia Marlboro 1975 (printed 2015), Manuel Quintín Lame (I) 1978, Todo está muy Caro (Everything is Very Caro) 1978, Homenaje a Manuel Quintín Lame (Tribute to Manuel Quintín Lame) 1993, Colombia 2010 (after 1976 original), Corn-Maíz 2013.

The acquisition, a cornerstone of the artist’s most significant body of work, marks the profound impact of Antonio Caro’s exceptional contributions to the Latin American contemporary art landscape and his enduring resonance on the cultural scene. Antonio Caro’s adept manipulation of language and unconventional techniques has garnered him widespread recognition. His works are characterized by dematerialization, simple designs, and concise messages. His artworks manifest anti-conventional attitudes while stimulating critical reflection. Furthermore, the emergence of text in Colombian contemporary art finds its roots in the early 1970s, with Antonio Caro leading the way.
Celebrated as one of Colombia’s most significant conceptual artists, Antonio Caro leaves an enduring legacy through his exploration of the intersection of language, politics, and cultural identity, all infused with historical and geographical specificity through a singular visual language.
